Sujeiry Gonzalez has a way of making you feel comfortable, her smile & laughter is contagious & you can quickly forget what you were doing because you’re so captured by everything she has to say. It’s not difficult to fall in love with the 1st lady of love!

A admirable Dominican from Washington Heights who at a young age has a hefty portfolio of creative success. A dreamer, performer , business woman who truly defines a one WOMAN show.

After 3 hours of exchanging ideas, chisme, knowledge, stories we finally decided that maybe we should get the interview started….

What can you tell readers about your website?

“lovesujeiry.com is the go to site for love sex & relationships, according to Sujeiry. I have been writing about love, Sex & Relationships since 2005. I’ve written in Latina magazine, Migente.com etc I’ve done enough stupid shit to be an inspiration to woman”

When did this idea of lovesujeiry.com come about?

“It came about March 26, 2009 when my aunt passed away, I was in the middle of hosting [LoveMiOnline] sex showcase & I got the call that my aunt passed she was only 62 & I had already started questioning the direction of my life & my career. Before Lovesujeiry I was behind the scenes, I was disappearing creatively, that’s not where I wanted to be, people notice me, I’ve always been a performer. When she passed I realized I should focus on what I want to do creatively write & perform.”

When did you realize this was your calling?

“I’ve been writing since I was 12, I had journals upon journals that I have kept, complaining about boys & my mother. I decided in 6^thgrade that I was going to write a book inspired by the show [Sweet Valley high]. I thought to write a book was just about taking your type writer & construction paper and write a book. My Story was about 2 sisters, just like my relationship with my sister. I was quiet & fragile, my older sister was bossy so were the characters in the book. I was writing & writing and my sister reads my work & starts laughing, I was sensitive I got really upset I ripped the pages and stopped writing. As far a performing, I started singing when I was in fourth grade I was in chorus I played the guitar. In high school I started an acapella group in which we performed in school meetings. We were called [Illusions]. I really wanted to perform in our schools Latin art showcase.  I never remember not being creative”

What was the most challenging moment in your writing content development process & why?

“The most challenging moment was when I was a full time writer for SiTV/ Migente.com, and my contract was abruptly ended. When you’re a freelancer your contracts means nothing. I had love trips, a video blog & an advice blog I was also a ghost writer. I was making really good money, 6 months later they were going in a different direction & didn’t need me. I thought I had finally made it, then it hit me [oh shit I NEED A DAY JOB]. I really started doubting if I could take the fickle & inconsistent world of being a writer. I went back to teaching got my certification, I didn’t believe in it, in success as a creative professional. I snapped out of it eventually. When you are creative it never dies. When you’re creative conventional is boring, I got back on the horse and started LoveMiOnline, and the spark came back. That’s when I’m happiest”

You are currently working on your book, tell us more about it?

“My book is currently called “Love Trips the book” I’m not sure the title, it’s a collection of essays based on my online column lovetrips which I started on blogger.com then it was picked up by migente.com [the editor later left to SiTV and so did I]. Once SiTV was over I started my own website. SooO the book is definitely about love & relationships in a very naïve way, the stories I’ve chosen began in 2005 I was 26. When I think about love & relationships now at 32 it’s very different. But it was very important to start the story where it began, a lot of woman go through a stage in their life where they are naïve and don’t know what it is to love themselves.”

What are your future goals for lovesujeiry.com?

“I definitely want a brand, brand myself as Sujeiry first lady of love, that includes writing my book, having a radio show, Pepa Tv- AKA my vagina. I also write other things, a screenplay a mock-umentary I’m the star I won’t reveal what its about because I really need to get on it. I want lovesujeiry to be known for love relationships & humor. Pepa power! In every creative way, writing, radio, TV. I want to be a one woman show in every aspect”

Where do you see your career as a writer & blogger in the next 5 years.

“in the Caribbean as a successful brand, tv personality, sipping on a margarita. Watching my kids play in the sand while my husband sits next to me fanning me.”

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give the younger you concerning your writing?

“I would convince myself  to study creative writing in undergrad & to have my own radio show in undergrad. I would also have an internship every summer magazines, newspaper & radio. I really do think I would have stopped running away from what I really wanted to do & started really young with my blog, I would of written every day, I wasn’t writing every day, didn’t do open mic’s or things of that nature. I would have been more responsible and focused. [Snap out of life isn’t a party]. I always knew I was talented I never thought it could actually be a career, I was trained conventional was the way to go, my Dominican family made me believe to be a teacher, doctor, lawyer was the path to take, being a writer wasn’t in the realm, I didn’t take it seriously, didn’t think it was an option..So, basically I would tell a younger me [Go for yours & fuck the world Pepa Power!]”
