Featuring: MargieB

MargieB! A vibrant personality is an understatement. A beautiful Dominicana ready to make her personality shine bright through her brand. We are connected by a large array of hard-working latinas, it was due time that I would meet Margie, & there is no better way then the way we did. Right on 5th avenue, surround by shops that one day will have Margie B bags & know all about ElizTalks.

Immediately as we sat down Margie wanted to hear all about me, even joked that the interview was on me. As we exchanged stories, & notes, contacts, threw a few names here & there, I realized I had made a connection to an almost stranger, & had made yet another friend.  To hear her speak about her love for design was inspiring, the passion in creating almost made me wonder if I could make something (haha, can’t even cut cloth straight).

Here’s more info on the young lady behind the leather & metal…

Where are you from & how has this impacted your creativity?

I moved to the Dominican Republic when I was three and looked up to my mother who was a seamstress, I was very familiar with Oscar de la Renta & was convinced I wanted to be just like him. After my mother passed away I came the US & put that aside. I went to college had a bunch a loans & did what most people do after college & joined a corporate setting. I quickly decided  I wasn’t doing what I loved so I started my blog to start doing what i love which is Fashion and accessories.

What do you want your brand & image to say to your audience?
I want it to say, “look at me, I’m fun, I’m chic but I’m a little sophisticated too”. I love the rocker feel but one that you can still take out to a nice dinner.Rebecca Minkoff inspires me and a style that I love so its important to build that image for my line.

What does Margie B. Design & how did the “Margie B” brand come about?

MargieB is all about handbags, hopefully one day i go into jewelry and other accessories. It’s natural for a designer to want to use their name in whatever they do so i decided to name my brand “MargieB”.  I started designing July 2010 as soon as I started the blog I considered the launch of “MargieB” handbags.

Where do your brand expanding to in the next few years?

I’m hoping to get into Macy’s & Bloomingdales. I have hopes & a vision that I will be in there. Crossing my fingers & expand into other accessories as well as in other boutiques throughout the city.
What influences your style & creativity?
Metal & leather. I love these things. Love smelling leather. I go to fabric stores & stare at the leather sections. I also like comfort. first bag is a cross body bag. I like comfy but classy. Something you can use every-day, not a one day or special occasion bag but an “always looking
good” bag.

What do you want your brand to represent to it’s audience & why should
everyone be rocking MargieB’s?
I want to represent an established everyday woman.  Just like Michael kors, not ordinary but a brand you notice & it’s not far out of reach but it’s something you want to get. I don’t want people spending an entire paycheck on a bag, but enough that its something of status. Same desire
as louis vuitton but not the same price-tag.

I’m definitely placing my order for a MargieB…are you? ;)
