Featuring: Steve Rivers (The Kid Skoob)

It’s true when they say you never know who you are rubbing shoulders with at events. Meeting Steve was literally a once in a lifetime chance, spent an entire event sharing a table and laughing at jokes but it wasn’t until the very end that we connected. After a quick exchange of twitter names, I began to learn a lot more about Steve Rivers.

I must admit after hearing his story, his grind & his hustle, I was star struck. I couldn’t help but feel I just finished interviewing a celebrity, one that is so close to striking big. His resume is one that anyone would envy. From creating “Skoob TV”, working for MTV, BET, CNN, ESPN. A comedian, producer, sports journalist. You can see his work all over & I don’t only mean YouTube. Produced Doritos & Pepsi commercials that were seen during the Superbowl. Created television/online series “Hip Hop Unplugged”.

Top executives have personally commended him on his work and are keeping him at arms length ready to work with him. Let’s just say this not so top executive ElizTalks is ready to jump on any new project Steve has going, because I am convinced it will be a success.

Here’s a closer look at the man behind the jokes….

Where are you from and how has this effected your life path? I am from Philly, PA. A lot of people grow up with potential but never take advantage of it or utilize it. I think outside of the box. I went to Penn State. Came all the way to NYC to intern with no one here with me. I was raised by my father, which has had a major impact on my drive and strength.

When you are at your lowest what keeps you going? Strength from my sister, she has 2 children. I love them to death, a lot comes from them. Knowing how much they need me. Success & dream are what I keep striving for as my family pushes me forward at my lowest points.

What are some methods of exposure for you? Social media and networking. Building you network, nurturing the relationships that you have. Remaining humble, avoiding rubbing anyone the wrong way. Knowing enough people that remain close because they understand your capabilities. People come to you when you are humble, so it’s one of the things I try to remain as I get exposure.

In a nutshell, what is it that you do? I’m a writer, I’d say that because that translates into so many things, producers, comedian are all creatives. I write everything and develop stuff. I’m a creative thinker.

What was your first star struck moment that you felt, “I made it”.? Summer of 2009, because of the people I was meeting with the relationships I was developing, people of higher levels. I interviewed Sway, discussed our relationship, one that developed into a close bond. My story was told & someone told me, I’m going to be someone. People say my drive and ambition inspire them. My little cousin Gina (16) told me I’m her idol & wants to be a performer. I knew then that half of my mission was done, I made it, but have a long way to go.

What would you say is your mission? To get to a point where I can do what I want to do with anything. The greenlight power. The ability to do what I want if I wanted to. All up to me, continue my hustle. I want to have the power Diddy has, open doors and help others.

What is one message you have for your audience? Whatever it is you want to do take ownership of that. Don’t let anyone take you down when you have a dream keep focus. Even if you are in a horrible job, you heart wins over in the end. You’ll end up doing something you love. “Ambition is the first step towards success”.

If you haven’t heard from him, definitely don’t forget where you heard of it first! ELIZTALKS ;)
